Earth Hour 2011

One of the largest worldwide environmental events, this year’s Earth Hour is slated for March 26, Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. An initiative by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), more than 130 countries are poised to join the big switch-off. Says Andy Ridley, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Earth Hour, “It is only through the collective action of business, organisations, individuals, communities and governments that we will be able to affect change on the scale required to address the environmental challenges we face.”

The Philippines —now on its fourth year of joining the rest of the world for Earth Hour —topped its 2009 record with 15 million Filipinos turning off their lights in 2010 in support for Earth Hour, according to Philstar.

But more than just switching off our lights, Earth Hour National Director Atty. Gia Ibay shares, “We must emphasize that Earth Hour is but 60 minutes long. If we want lasting and effective results, then we must inculcate the true spirit of the event into our lives.”

I’m one with this advocacy the past years, will be switching lights off again tomorrow.Let’s make a difference. Let’s make this happen for Mother Earth. Join the Earth Hour!
